Explain how the exhaust gases are discharged from the cylinder of a two stroke cycle spark ignition engine.



Answer: At the bottom of the downward stroke the exhaust port is uncovered and the expanding gases are allowed to escape. At the same time the fuel air mixture entering the cylinder removes remaining exhaust gases (scavenging).
